SGPT or ALT Test is a part of the liver function test. SGPT or ALT test is done to assess the proper functioning of the liver by measuring the amount of serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase enzyme in the blood.

Test required for

Alanine transaminase (ALT) is an enzyme found in the liver and kidney and small amount is also found in the heart and muscles. ALT is checked for diagnosis of liver damage or hepatic cirrhosis etc.

Test ordered for

This is part of Liver function test and done to screen for proper functioning of liver.

Test recommended

To detect any liver damage. Higher value indicate liver damage , Hepatitis A and B, Liver Cancer, Pancreatitis and Cirrhosis.
