SGOT Test or AST Test is a part of the liver function test. SGOT test is done to assess the proper functioning of the liver by measuring the amount of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase enzyme in the blood.

Test required for

AST is an enzyme found in many organs such as liver, heart cells and in less amount in kidneys and muscles. AST level is used to detect and monitor liver disease and other medical conditions such as acute myocardial infarction.

Test ordered for

It is a part of liver function test and a screening for any possible liver disorders.

Test recommended

To check for proper liver functioning. High values indicate liver damage and Hepatitis A and B.
