Rheumatoid factor (RF) is a protein that is produced by the immune system which attacks healthy tissue. Presence of RF in the blood can indicate an autoimmune disease. RF indicates for Rheumatoid arthritis & also in cases of chronic infection and other systemic inflammatory conditions. Individuals, more than 65 years of age may also show positive RF results. In such cases common IgM RF, & both IgA RF and IgG RF have been detected. IgA RF has been related to the more severe form of the disease.
