Anti Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide or Anti-CCP antibodies are useful for evaluating patients suspected of Rheumatoid arthritis. Approximately 50-60% of patients having Rheumatoid arthritis show anti-CCP antibodies after 3-6 months of the symptoms. Early Rheumatoid arthritis patients with Anti-CCP positivity may develop a more erosive form of the disease as compared with Anti-CCP negative patients. It is also useful to differentiate elderly onset of Rheumatoid arthritis from Polymyalgia rheumatica and erosive SLE. This test is highly sensitive and specific for the diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
